Local buckling on large sandwich panels used in light aviation: Experimental setup and failure scenarios

چکیده

The design of light aircraft sandwich structures is driven by a local buckling phenomenon named “wrinkling” which can be the primary cause failure such structures. Structural tests using VERTEX methodology were performed to access wrinkling behaviour 558x536 mm 2 technological specimens representative used in aviation. operating principle machine use four hydraulic actuators load rectangular box structure, upper part central being closed under test. Thus, tested compressive and shear loading. A scenario was identified thanks Stereo Digital Image Correlation high-speed camera. Wrinkling localisation mechanical geometrical aspects. Experiments on panels remain rare literature at this level test pyramid for certification aeronautical This scale presents some advantages as it allows multiaxial loading boundary conditions consistent with lightweight structure. Technological elements also added study their influence result will lead interesting future investigations dialogue between experiments models forthcoming paper.

Local Buckling of Web-Core and Foam-Core Sandwich Panels

Sandwich construction is widely accepted as a method of construction especially in the aircraft industry. It is a type of stressed skin construction formed by bonding two thin faces to a thick core, the faces resist all of the applied edge loads and provide all or nearly all of the required rigidities, the core spaces the faces to increase cross section moment of inertia about common neutral ax...

Finite Element Modeling of the Buckling Response of Sandwich Panels

A comparative study of different modeling approaches for predicting sandwich panel buckling response is described. The study considers sandwich panels with anisotropic face sheets and a very thick core. Results from conventional analytical solutions for sandwich panel overall buckling and face-sheet-wrinkling type modes are compared with solutions obtained using different finite element modelin...

Experimental Tests on Steel Buckling Inhibited Shear Panels

Passive protection systems based on the use of metal shear panels represent an effective way for achieving a significant improvement of the seismic response of buildings. Nevertheless, the dissipative capacity of these devices could be limited by buckling phenomena. In order to reduce the influence of instability, "Buckling Inhibited Shear Panels" have been recently introduced as an innovative ...

Delamination in sandwich panels due to local water slamming loads

We study delamination in a sandwich panel due to transient finite plane strain elastic deformations caused by local water slamming loads and use the boundary element method to analyze motion of water and the finite element method to determine deformations of the panel. The cohesive zone model is used to study delamination initiation and propagation. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible and...

Free Vibration and Buckling Analysis of Sandwich Panels with Flexible Cores Using an Improved Higher Order Theory

In this paper, the behavior of free vibrations and buckling of the sandwich panel with a flexible core was investigated using a new improved ‎high-order sandwich panel theory. In this theory, equations of motion were formulated based on shear stresses in the core. First-order shear deformation theory was ‎applied for the procedures. In this theory, for the first time, incompatibility problem of...
